Sebastian Hoeness backs Bilal El Khannouss to lift AFCON trophy

Sebastian Hoeness backs Bilal El Khannouss to lift AFCON trophy

The 21-year-old Moroccan midfielder joined the Reds on loan from Leicester City in September last year.

He has three goals and three assists from 12 Bundesliga games and has played in three of his country's four AFCON games, including the full 90 as Morocco saw off Tanzania 1-0 in their last 16 clash.

The hosts play Cameroon in an eagerly anticipated quarter-final clash on Friday, but Hoeness wants El Khannouss to return with the trophy.

The head coach said on Morocco World News: "We are in constant contact. I congratulated him, and I hope he returns soon carrying the trophy.

“It rarely happens in a footballer's career to play in a major tournament in their home country. I hope he experiences many positive moments that give him a strong boost for the rest of the season.”
