Gio Aplon: Bok veterans the ultimate 'insurance policy' ahead of 2027 World Cup
Former Springbok star Gio Aplon has backed the value of experience in the current squad, highlighting why the world champions remain strong ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

The scrumhalf ran a superb support line for his first try, then showed good strength to snipe over for two more from close range to give his side the ascendancy going into the second stanza.
Elsewhere in Japan League One, 2019 Rugby World Cup final hero Lukhanyo Am showed he just loves playing in Tokyo. The outside centre scored in the second half for the Mitsubishi Dynamos to help them edge Suntory Sungoliath 35-32 in the same city where he earned his World Cup medal. Am was put into a gap and cantered over the tryline from ten metres out.
In the same match, Bok bolter Cheslin Kolbe made a few telling runs, but his main contribution came from the boot as he kicked seven points for the losing Sungoliath.
Springbok utility knife Kwagga Smith scored a try for the Shizuoka Blue Revs in their 34-24 victory over Toyota Verblitz. Smith scooped the ball up at the back of the ruck and powered his way over the line after a few leg pumps.
The Wild Knights cruised to a 31-7 win against Tokyo Black Rams, with Springbok inside centre Damian de Allende marshalling the midfield with aplomb.
World Rugby Player of the Year Malcom Marx scrummed down for the Kubota Spears as they earned a high-scoring 59-35 win over the bottom-of-the-table Urayasu D-Rocks.
Finally, Springbok veteran Franco Mostert ran out for Honda Heat as they came from behind to beat Toshiba Brave Lupus 24-22.
On the other side of the world in England's Premiership, Bok behemoth Thomas du Toit continued to use his power upfront with Bath. The prop helped Johann van Graan’s men demolish Saracens 62-15 on Friday night.
Then on Saturday, Dan and Rob du Preez starred for the Sale Sharks as they went down to the Exeter Chiefs 26-14. Dan du Preez benefited from a powerful Sale scrum under Exeter's poles, picking the ball up going over untouched for an easy try.
