UEFA Nations League wrap: Dominant Portugal storm into last eight

Here's a recap of Friday's action.

Portugal 5-1 Poland: Rafael Leao Leads the Charge

Portugal secured their place in the quarter-finals with a scintillating second-half performance against Poland in Lisbon.

The visitors controlled the early exchanges, but Rafael Leao broke the deadlock in the 59th minute with a powerful header. From there, Portugal shifted into high gear, delivering a ruthless 16-minute blitz. Cristiano Ronaldo chipped in with a trademark penalty and an acrobatic overhead kick, while Bruno Fernandes and Pedro Neto added emphatic finishes.

Poland's Dominik Marczuk netted a late consolation, but the Selecao's offensive prowess proved too much, clinching the quarter-final berth with a game to spare.

Denmark 1-2 Spain: Ayoze Perez and Mikel Oyarzabal shine

Spain confirmed top spot in Group A4 with a gritty victory over Denmark in Copenhagen.

Ayoze Perez struck the crossbar early on but set up Mikel Oyarzabal for a clinical 15th-minute opener. Perez doubled the lead after the break, slotting home from Dani Olmo's assist. Denmark fought back, with substitute Gustav Isaksen hitting the post before pouncing on a defensive error to score late. However, Spain held firm to maintain their unbeaten run.

Switzerland 1-1 Serbia: Relegation for the Swiss

Switzerland were relegated from League A after a dramatic draw against Serbia in Zurich.

Despite a tense first half that saw Noah Okafor hit the crossbar, the breakthrough came in the second. Gregor Kobel denied Aleksandar Mitrovic's penalty, and Zeki Amdouni's superb half-volley gave the Swiss a vital lead in the 79th minute. But Serbia struck back with Aleksa Terzic converting a counterattack in the 88th minute to snatch a point and seal Switzerland's fate.

Scotland 1-0 Croatia: Late John McGinn magic

Scotland kept their qualification hopes alive with a hard-fought win over ten-man Croatia in Glasgow.

Craig Gordon made critical saves early on before Croatia's Petar Sucic was sent off for a second yellow just before half-time. After Mario Pasalic missed a golden chance, Scotland capitalised late. Ben Doak's shot was parried, and substitute John McGinn smashed home the rebound to secure victory and deny Croatia a quarter-final spot.

Best of the Rest

San Marino kept their hopes alive in Group D1, as Nicola Nanni's late penalty denied Gibraltar promotion.
Northern Ireland maintained their lead in Group C3 with a 2-0 win over Belarus, keeping Bulgaria at bay for promotion.

Friday's Results:

Group A1: Portugal 5-1 Poland, Scotland 1-0 Croatia
Group A4: Denmark 1-2 Spain, Switzerland 1-1 Serbia
Group C2: Cyprus 2-1 Lithuania, Romania A-A Kosovo
Group C3: Luxembourg 0-1 Bulgaria, Northern Ireland 2-0 Belarus
Group D1: San Marino 1-1 Gibraltar

Portugal and Spain stole the headlines on a night of high drama in the Nations League.
