Walid Regragui confident in Morocco's humble approach ahead of AFCON quarter-final clash

Walid Regragui confident in Morocco's humble approach ahead of AFCON quarter-final clash

Regragui has come under criticism for his team's seemingly conservative approach to their AFCON campaign on home soil.

The Atlas Lions kicked off their competition with a solid 2-0 win over the Comoros before being held to a 1-1 draw with fellow quarter-finalists Mali.

They confidently defeated Zambia 3-0 to end top of Group A with seven points but were less convincing in a 1-0 win over minnows Tanzania in their last 16 clash.

Cameroon will be a far sterner test for Morocco, but Regragui says his side will continue to treat each game with humility as they bid to reach the AFCON final.

He said on Flash Score: "We are still thinking the same way and have confidence in what we are doing.

"The players feel it, and we know we have to live up to it. The ‌most important thing is that the fans continue to support us."

"We have the humility to believe that we can win this Cup of Nations," the coach added.

"It's a tournament that requires staying grounded, even if people do not want to understand that.

"But when you see the results and all the strong teams that have progressed, then you realise what you are up against.

"This will be a clash that will reverberate around the continent. Cameroon needs no introduction. We know it's going ‌to be tough again."
