Australia recall big guns for World Test Championship final against South Africa

Green, who has recovered from a back injury, is set to play his first Test since March 2024. Captain Cummins and fast bowler Hazlewood also make their Test returns after missing the latter part of the WTC cycle due to injuries. Both featured in the IPL 2025 before the tournament was suspended, though Hazlewood is under a minor injury cloud, having missed Royal Challengers Bengaluru's most recent match with a shoulder concern.

Brendan Doggett has been named as the only travelling reserve following a standout display in the Sheffield Shield final, where he was named Player of the Match. The rest of the squad remains largely unchanged from the side that sealed series wins over Sri Lanka (2-0) and India (3-1) over the summer, securing Australia's place in the WTC final.

"We're pleased to have Pat, Josh, and Cam back in the mix," said George Bailey, chair of selectors. "The group performed consistently over the past two years, and finishing the cycle with a strong series win in Sri Lanka reflects the depth and quality within the squad. We're looking forward to what should be an outstanding contest at Lord's."

Beau Webster retains his place after a promising debut series, while young batter Sam Konstas is also recalled following his early exit from the Sri Lanka tour to meet domestic commitments. In the spin department, Matthew Kuhnemann has been preferred over Todd Murphy, although he's more likely to feature in the Caribbean leg of the tour.

Australia will be bidding to become the first team to successfully defend the World Test Championship title, having won the previous final against India in 2023.

Australia Squad for WTC Final & West Indies Tour:
Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster
Travelling reserve: Brendan Doggett
