Australia resist selecting all-pace attack for must-win Test against Bangladesh

Captain Pat Cummins had suggested in his pre-match press-conference that Scott Boland might come into the XI to make a four-man fast-bowling attack as the hosts look to win the Test and draw the two-match series.

"Again, another pitch we haven't played (on) before in red ball or in a Test match, so just trying to give them another day really to see whether it's four quicks or a spin," Cummins said.

The home skipper also confirmed that Matt Renshaw will open the batting after being drafted into the squad at the expense of Jake Weatherald.

Renshaw will earn his 15th Test cap, his first since 2023, when he walks out alongside Travis Head at the top of the order.

"He's been really impressive," Cummins said. "(He) had some great off-season tours to Pakistan and Bangladesh recently with [the] white ball, looks in good nick, (and) had a really good Shield season last season.

"We just want his best. I think some of the kind of chat about Renners in the past is he can look different from day to day. I think now, when you get to your back half of your career as a batter, you want to really know what you look like at your best and I think he does that.

"That's the hope with Renners, is [to] keep bringing your best version every day. That's being nice and sharp, putting a bit of pressure back on the bowlers."
