Australia's Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood run through West Indies to secure series victory

Chief destroyers Mitchell Starc (3/24) and Josh Hazlewood (2/33) made good use of the new ball on a pitch offering variable bounce to secure a comfortable victory on Day 4.

Australia resumed batting in the morning on 221/7 and could only muster 22 runs for their final three wickets. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey again provided useful runs down the order, scoring 30 off 35 before being trapped in front by Shamar Joseph.

While the hosts were buoyed by their morning wicket haul, chasing 277 on a tricky surface was always going to be a tall order.

Australia virtually snuffed out any hope of victory before lunch, as they reduced the West Indies to 33/4 at the break. The final wicket of the session saw a crackerjack delivery by talisman Pat Cummins. The ball angled in and then seamed away to shatter into King’s off-stump.

With little to lose, Roston Chase and Shai Hope threw caution to the wind after lunch, throwing hard hands at anything they deemed hittable. Their resistance came to an end 38 exciting runs later when Hope skied a pull shot that was easily gobbled up by bowler Hazlewood.

Wicket-taker turned run-getter Joseph also provided resistance down the order. A swashbuckling 24 from 23 included three sixes, but Nathan Lyon got his man. The veteran tweaker got two more to close out the innings, leaving him within one of Glenn McGrath's tally of 563 wickets as the second-most for Australia behind legend Shane Warne.
