Graeme Smith predicting record-breaking numbers at SA20 player auction
SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith is expecting bidding wars and record-breaking numbers at the player auction to be held on Tuesday in Johannesburg ahead of season 4.
Here we look at five English players who could be in demand:
James Anderson
The veteran seamer is his country's highest-ever wicket-taker in Test cricket but is very underrated in the shortest form of the game.
The 43-year-old has showed that he has not lost any of his ability to take wickets with the new ball, even if it is a white one.
He has base price of R1000 000 and would be a shrewd signing for any of the six franchises.
Moeen Ali
The spin-bowling allrounder will be an asset for any team, batting anywhere in the order and can bowl his complement of four overs to balance the XI.
The 38-year-old is now a familiar face in T20 leagues across the globe and it will be no surprise if he is picked up again in the SA20, with whom has experienced the tournament already with Joburg Super Kings.
The Englishman will have a base price of R1500 000.
Jordan Cox
The batter is already a SA20 winner having lifted the title with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, although he only played seven matches across two seasons with the franchise.
The 24-year-old has grown his T20 game in leaps in the recent past, averaging over 30 and striking at more than 140 per 100 balls.
Cox will have a base price set at R1500 000 and could fetch a lot more.
Alex Hales
The veteran top-order batter is looking to make his first venture into the SA20 having played in T20 leagues all around the world.
The 36-year-old is a T20 World Cup winner and packs a powerful punch that would make him an asset to any franchise in South Africa.
Hales will come in at a base price of R1500 000.
Tawanda Muyeye
The Zimbabwe-born Englishman could be a steal at the auction if any of the six franchises want to take a chance on the stylish batter.
The 24-year-old served notice of his talent and certainly put his name on the radar when he helped the Oval Invincibles to the Hundred title at Lord's.
The Kent batter will come in at a base price of R500 000.
