Graeme Smith outlines SA20 goals ahead of fifth season

The tournament will run from January 17 to February 21, 2027, with Gqeberha staging the opening encounter between three-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals in a repeat of last season's final.

Smith, the former Proteas captain, shared his vision during the Season 5 launch on November 5, highlighting the importance of combining international stars with established South African players and emerging domestic talent.

He also identified supporter engagement and strong attendances as key components of the league's continued growth.

The competition will visit six cities, with fixtures spread across various days of the week, including Mondays, before the Playoffs determine the finalists.

SA20 is also making match attendance more affordable, with Frenzy tickets starting at just 3 dollars for all opening fixtures and selected matches. Stadium ticket offices will begin selling tickets on November 15, giving supporters several weeks to secure their seats.

"Heading into our fifth season, SA20 still belongs to the fans. They have filled our stadiums, brought the noise and made this League what it is, so Season 5 is our way of saying thank you," Smith said in a press release.

"The standard of cricket keeps rising each season, and Season 5 will be no different. What makes SA20 incredible is that it's for everyone. Whether you're a lifelong cricket fan, bringing the kids for the first time or just looking for a great day out with friends, there's a place for you in the stands."
