India captain Shubman Gill criticises England's unsportsmanlike tactics
India captain Shubman Gill believes England's behaviour during the third Test at Lord's was against the "spirit" of the game, as the hosts went on to win.
Bumrah's clearance is timely. With Akash Deep battling a groin niggle and Arshdeep Singh already sidelined, India's fast-bowling unit has been stretched thin.
Bumrah was initially scheduled to feature in only three of the five Tests, but if the series remains alive, India may consider fielding him in the fifth at The Oval. For now, they'll hope his presence at Old Trafford - where overcast conditions and forecast showers could assist seam - will turn the tide in their favour.
The decision on the third seamer will hinge on Akash Deep's fitness over the next 48 hours. If ruled out, India could recall Prasidh Krishna or hand a debut to Anshul Kamboj. The 24-year-old Haryana quick has quietly built an impressive first-class record and was added to the squad as cover after Reddy's injury. Known for generating late seam movement, Kamboj earned high praise from MS Dhoni during the IPL and would slot in as a like-for-like replacement for Akash.
India may also bolster their batting by bringing back Sai Sudharsan, who played the first Test but was left out for spin-bowling depth in subsequent matches. Shardul Thakur could return if conditions demand a fourth seamer over a second spinner.
Later in the day, India received more good news as Rishabh Pant came through a full net session, including wicketkeeping drills, without discomfort. Pant had injured his finger during the Lord's Test and did not keep in the second innings. Although Dhruv Jurel was considered as a backup, Pant now looks likely to resume full duties behind the stumps.
With the series in the balance, India's team combination is beginning to solidify - anchored by the return of their most potent weapon.
