Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj set for English county stint with Leicestershire
Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj will join county side Leicestershire for the first four months of the English domestic season next year.
Number one-ranked ODI bowler Keshav Maharaj is the latest Proteas star to be sidelined after tweaking his groin in the warm-up for their first T20I against England in Cardiff on Wednesday.
All-rounder Corbin Bosach was drafted into the team at the 11th hour and featured with two wickets in South Africa's 14-run win via DLS in the rain-affected affair.
But earlier on Wednesday, paceman Lungi Ngidi was ruled out of the three-match series with a right-hamstring strain. He is flying back home to South Africa and is in a race against time to be ready for selection for the start of the Proteas World Test Championship title defence against Pakistan on 12 October.
Not 24 hours before, talisman David Miller was also withdrawn from the squad with a hamstring strain he suffered during the final week of The Hundred.
All this comes off the back of captain Temba Bavuma also suffering from a hamstring issue in the final disastrous ODI against England last week.
However, there are some silver linings. Strike bowler Kagiso Rabada recovered from ankle inflammation and bowled the first over on Wednesday. All-rounder Marco Jansen also returned following thumb surgery in June, while seamer Lizaad Williams is back from a knee operation.
The second T20I against England gets underway on Friday in Manchester.
