Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma backing themselves to reach 2027 World Cup, says former India coach
Former India coach Ravi Shastri claims legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma believe they have what it takes to reach the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The win handed the visitors a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana opted to bat first under the hot Lahore sun, hoping to wear down the tourists. Her side posted a competitive 255 for 4 from their 50 overs, anchored by a superb unbeaten century from teenager Shawaal Zulfiqar.
She combined with opener Muneeba Ali for a 147-run partnership that steadied Pakistan after the early dismissal of Zulfiqar by Ayabonga Khaka.
Zulfiqar later returned to reach three figures, while Muneeba's fluent 76 was cut short when Khaka trapped her leg-before.
Khaka finished with 2 for 36, while Marizanne Kapp, Annerie Dercksen and Nondumiso Shangase toiled through the innings.
In response, South Africa's chase was spearheaded by their senior batters. Sune Luus made a bright start before falling LBW, but the stage was set for a record partnership.
Kapp and Tazmin Brits combined for a commanding 216-run stand, the highest for South Africa in women's ODIs.
Kapp registered her fourth ODI hundred - her second on Pakistani soil - striking 13 boundaries and two sixes in the process.
Brits matched her with her own fifth ODI century, compiled with nine fours, as the pair completely took the game away from the hosts.
South Africa reached their target of 256 with eight wickets to spare.
