Morgan Gould confident of positive result in World Cup qualifier against Nigeria

The two sides come face to face in a crucial Group C match that could go a long way in determining who qualifies for the tournament taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.

Bafana currently top the group with 16 points, while the Super Eagles are in third place with 10 points, just one adrift of Benin in second place.

The last time these two sides faced each other, in a recent qualifier, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, while Nigeria emerged victorious in their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash at the 2024 tournament.

Despite Nigeria holding the better record historically against their southern African neighbours, Gould says Hugo Broos' Bafana are a different prospect.

The former defender said on IOL: "It's a no-brainer that we go in there understanding our own problems but also being mindful of what we have in strength, I know for a fact they won't conquer us.

"Gone are the days where they would overlook us, they now see us in a different light, knowing that we're capable of a lot.

“The players we have now, the Forster's, Mbokazi, Mbule, Rele etc we need to give them the honour and gratitude they deserve, they now carry the torch and we should place our faith in them.”
