Ntsako Makhubela embracing hard lessons as Kruger United prepare for top-flight

The 32-year-old was part of the Kruger United side that lifted the Motsepe Foundation Championship title in May, sealing a return to South Africa's top flight. It marked another significant chapter in a career that has taken him through clubs such as Orlando Pirates, Golden Arrows, Moroka Swallows, Magesi FC and Richards Bay FC.

After spending recent years moving between clubs and struggling to establish long-term stability, many viewed his switch to the second tier as a major setback. However, Makhubela insists he never saw his journey as a decline that needed rescuing.

"I wouldn't call it a revival," Makhubela told FARPost.

"One thing I've realised in this life is that there will always be highs and lows. What has happened has happened. I don't regret anything, and I wouldn't say I am reviving my career. If things were meant to unfold a certain way, they were always going to happen."

Makhubela joined the Mpumalanga-based outfit during the January transfer window and quickly became part of a successful promotion push. Rather than dwelling on missed opportunities from the past, he says the difficult periods have helped shape his outlook on both football and life.

"If a setback happened to me, why should it have happened to someone else instead?" he said.

"I am just glad to have gone through it. I am back now, feeling fresh, and still determined to give my absolute best."

The experienced playmaker credits his spell at Kruger United for helping him rediscover perspective and humility, qualities he believes were reinforced during his time outside the spotlight.

"Being at Kruger United has taught me to always remain humble, support my teammates, and trust the process," he explained.

"Above all, it's about putting God first, because without Him, we are nothing. You have to pray and trust in Him. With God, anything is possible."

With Kruger United preparing for life in the Betway Premiership, Makhubela believes his biggest asset remains his desire to succeed.

"If there is one thing you need to know about me, it's my hunger," he said.

"I always say that talent alone is not enough. In this league, you have to grind, and we have been working hard to adjust to the level."

As he prepares for another opportunity in the top flight, Makhubela is determined to show that resilience, rather than talent alone, has been the defining feature of his career.
