Pakistan Woman skittle Proteas Women in final ODI

With the three-match series already wrapped up by the visitors and temperatures topping 37 degrees in the Pakistan capital, there was little energy in the dead rubber.

South Africa, who had five changes to their XI that sealed the series on Friday, won the toss and opted to bat first. Captain Laura Wolvaardt partnered well with Karabo Meso, getting the Proteas Women off to a bright start, clubbing 38 off 6.4 overs. Wolvaardt fell for 28, then Sune Luus for ten off spinner Nashra Sandhu.

When Meso was caught and bowled by Omaima Sohail, leaving the Proteas Women 59/3 in the tenth over, their innings began to falter.

A patient Sandhu was further rewarded when she clean bowled Maine Smit for her second, and proceeded to run through the South Africans to eventually bag 6/42, the second-best figures ever for Pakistan Women in ODIs.

Nadine de Klerk and Masabata Klaas provided some resistance at the end, but ultimately they were skittled for just 117 in the 26th over.

In reply, there was a nervous few moments when Sohail was dismissed first ball by Nonkululeko Mlaba. However, Muneeba Ali (44) and Sidra Amin (50 not out) were superb with the willow as they took the result beyond any doubt. De Klerk struck twice, but the damage had already been done as the Pakistan Women cruised to a deserved victory.
