Royal Challengers Bengaluru break trophy drought to be crowned IPL champions
Royal Challengers Bengaluru sealed their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title after beating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final at Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during a fan event celebrating RCB's IPL campaign.
On June 12, the government submitted a status report to the High Court, which was made public on 8 July. The report named RCB, DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as responsible for going ahead with IPL victory celebrations despite the Bengaluru Police denying permission.
Nikhil Sosale, RCB's marketing head, was arrested in connection with the incident. The organisers allegedly ignored clear police communication and failed to provide a crowd management plan.
The KSCA only informed the Cubbon Park Police Station on the evening of 3 June, leaving authorities no time to ensure adequate security. Police subsequently denied the event, citing short notice and lack of planning.
Despite this, promotions intensified. At 8:55 AM on 4 June, a video message from Virat Kohli inviting fans was posted online. By 3:14 PM, RCB had shared parade timings and a link for "limited free passes."
Kohli's video amassed over 1.6 million views, triggering a massive public response, with lakhs arriving at the venue.
The High Court will now assess individual responsibilities. FIRs and suspensions are already underway, and the BCCI has issued a show-cause notice to RCB.
