David Miller stars as Paarl Royals edge Eastern Cape Sunrisers
David Miller starred with an unbeaten 71 off 38 balls as the Paarl Royals staged a stunning comeback to beat Sunrisers Eastern Cape by five wickets at St George's Park. Chasing 150, the Royals were in trouble at 35/4 after Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje tore through the top order.
Miller's calm, powerful batting, featuring five sixes and four fours, anchored a crucial 114-run fifth-wicket partnership with Keegan Lion-Cachet, who contributed 45 off 40 balls. The Royals sealed victory with two balls to spare when Lewis Gregory bowled a wide.
Earlier, the Sunrisers posted 149 all out, with Jordaan Hermann scoring 47 and Jonny Bairstow 33. Royals bowlers were disciplined at the death, with 19-year-old Nqobani Mokoena taking 4/34 and Ottneil Baartman claiming 3/36.
The win lifts the Royals off the bottom of the SA20 points table, while the Sunrisers remain top with 10 points. Miller's masterclass highlighted the difference between experience and pressure in T20 cricket, turning a near-impossible chase into a memorable triumph.
Sherfane Rutherford Leads Pretoria Capitals to dominant win over MI Cape Town
Pretoria Capitals secured their first SA20 win of the season with an 85-run victory over MI Cape Town at Newlands Stadium, climbing to fourth on the table, while Cape Town remain bottom after two losses and a washout.
After electing to bat first, Capitals were 38/3 in the powerplay before Wihan Lubbe steadied the innings with 60 off 36 balls. He shared an 88-run fourth-wicket partnership with Shai Hope (45 off 30), laying the foundation for 220/5.
West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford and Dewald Brevis finished the innings with an explosive 86-run unbroken stand in 27 balls, smashing 10 sixes between them. Rutherford hit 47 not out off 15 balls, including four sixes in four balls in the 19th over.
Rabada returned from a three-month layoff to take 2-48, while Boult, Linde, and Bosch took one wicket each. In the chase, early contributions from Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton (60-run opening stand) faltered. Nicolas Pooran scored 25 off six balls before falling to Keshav Maharaj.
Rutherford claimed 4-24 with the ball, Maharaj 3-28, and Tymal Mills wrapped up the final wicket, giving Capitals a bonus-point victory.
