Super Kings break Centurion jinx with 22-run win over Capitals
Joburg Super Kings secured a historic 22-run victory over Pretoria Capitals in the second match of Betway SA20 Season 4 on Saturday, claiming their first win at Centurion in four seasons.
After losing the toss under sunny skies, the Super Kings were reduced to 16 for two as Tymal Mills removed Faf du Plessis and Matt de Villiers.
A vital third-wicket stand of 78 between Rilee Rossouw (48 off 33) and Wiaan Mulder (43 off 28) rebuilt the innings before late contributions from Akeal Hosein (22* off 10) and Dian Forrester (10* off seven) lifted the total to 168/6.
Pretoria Capitals made a strong start in reply, with Will Smeed (34) and Bryce Parsons (41) sharing a 71-run opening stand to reach 86/2 in the 12th over.
However, the dismissal of Dewald Brevis triggered a collapse in which the Capitals lost five wickets for 28 runs.
Duan Jansen then took control, dismantling the middle order with figures of 4 for 23 to seal the win. He was named Player of the Match, winning 83.2 per cent of the fan vote.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape hand Paarl Royals record 137-run SA20 defeat
Sunrisers Eastern Cape produced a dominant display to crush Paarl Royals by 137 runs with a bonus point in their Betway SA20 clash at Boland Park on Saturday evening.
This was the largest margin of victory in the competition and consigned the Royals to the lowest total in SA20 history.
After Tristan Stubbs won the toss and chose to bat, Sunrisers recovered from losing three wickets for 23 runs inside three overs to post 186/4.
Openers Quinton de Kock (42) and Jonny Bairstow (31) laid the platform with a 66-run stand, before Jordan Hermann took control.
Hermann struck an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls, his third SA20 half-century, sharing a crucial 73-run fourth-wicket partnership with Matthew Breetzke (31).
In reply, the Royals collapsed to 49 all out in 11.5 overs. Anrich Nortje led the demolition with 4/13, well supported by Adam Milne (2/7) and Tharindu Ratanayake (2/9).
Asa Tribe's 14 was the only notable resistance as Sunrisers sealed a comprehensive victory.
