Sunderland complete signing of Arthur Masuaku

The 31-year-old left-back joins on a two-year contract and becomes the Black Cats' 10th addition of a busy summer, following the arrivals of Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs, and Marc Guiu.

"I'm excited to be here and I'm also really happy to be back in the Premier League," said Masuaku, via the club's official website.

"It's clear that Sunderland is a top club and I'm grateful for the opportunity. I had three good years in Turkey, and now I have this exciting new challenge in front of me.

"I want to bring a winning mentality and joy to the fans, and I'm excited to get started."

Born in Lille, France, Masuaku began his career in the youth ranks of RC Lens before progressing through the academy at Valenciennes FC, where he made 29 senior appearances.

A move to Olympiacos followed in 2014, and he enjoyed a dream start with two assists on his league debut and a goal in his UEFA Champions League debut. During his time in Greece, he lifted two Super League titles and a Greek Cup.

Masuaku joined West Ham United in 2016, where he earned the affectionate nickname "King Arthur" from the Hammers' faithful.

Over seven seasons in London, he made 128 appearances before departing in 2023 for Turkish side Beşiktaş J.K. In Turkey, he featured 108 times and provided 18 assists, remaining with the club until the summer of 2025.
