Sunderland complete signing of Arthur Masuaku
Sunderland have confirmed the signing of DR Congo international Arthur Masuaku, subject to international clearance.
The 28-year-old has penned a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light, joining for an undisclosed fee.
"I'm feeling great about signing for this great team, so I'm really happy. I'm looking forward to my first experience in the Premier League - it's a great challenge for me," said Alderete, via the club's official website.
"I know it's a historic club, and when they told me there was an opportunity, I was excited about coming here. It's always important to have the support of the people, and I'm going to give it my all on the pitch."
Alderete arrives on Wearside with extensive top-flight experience, having made 99 appearances for Getafe during a four-year association with the Madrid-based club, including 36 outings last season. His time at Estadio Coliseum began with a loan move from Hertha BSC before the switch was made permanent in 2023.
Born in Paraguay, Alderete began his career with Cerro Porteño before moving to Argentina for a loan spell at Gimnasia, later joining Club Atletico Huracán in 2019.
His European journey started later that year with a move to Swiss side FC Basel, where he made an immediate impact. After just one season in the Swiss Super League, he was named in the competition's Team of the Year.
In 2020, the defender transferred to German Bundesliga outfit Hertha BSC, where his tenure included loan stints with La Liga clubs Valencia CF and Getafe CF. His solid defensive displays in Spain led to a permanent deal with Getafe, where he became a regular in their back line.
