Zitha Kwinika highlights benefits of Kaizer Chiefs' pre-season tour of Holland
Zitha Kwinika says Kaizer Chiefs have benefitted greatly from their recent tour to the Netherlands.
The Glamour Boys are back on home soil as they prepare to face Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup this Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Cele, who hails from KwaMashu, expressed deep appreciation for the support he receives whenever he plays in his hometown and hopes to help Chiefs put on a strong display against the Ghanaians.
"Since I came back, it's been a blessed journey - and it still is," said Cele.
"We're constantly working to improve as a team and as individuals. Playing at home is always special. The love I receive is hard to explain - it's something that touches the heart. It drives me to give more and help the team in any way I can."
The 28-year-old is focused on building from last season, where Chiefs missed out on a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership and consequently didn't qualify for the MTN8. But he believes their recent pre-season camp in the Netherlands has renewed the squad's unity and focus.
"Pre-season in the Netherlands helped us a lot. It gave us that sense of togetherness and clarity. Last season was disappointing, but lifting that trophy [referring to the Carling Knockout] gave us belief," he added.
"With CAF competitions on the horizon, we know the challenge ahead. There's still a lot of work to do, but we're ready to take it one game at a time. Football is 90 minutes, and that's how we approach it."
