The real reason CR Belouizdad let Khanyisa Mayo leave for Kaizer Chiefs

The real reason CR Belouizdad let Khanyisa Mayo leave for Kaizer Chiefs

The Bafana Bafana forward completed a loan move to Amakhosi after being left out of Belouizdad's squad for the new Algerian season.

Ramovic admitted that while Mayo is a "quality player," his chances of playing regularly in Algeria were slim.

"Khanyisa (Mayo) is a quality striker and a real professional, but every player needs the right conditions to reach his best level," Ramovic told Soccer Laduma.

"With us, his role was limited, and as a forward you can't grow without rhythm, confidence, and consistent minutes."

The former TS Galaxy coach believes Chiefs provide the ideal platform for Mayo to flourish.

"At Chiefs, he will hopefully get that platform, and that's why this move is the best step for him. As a head coach, my responsibility is to make decisions that respect the player's career while also keeping the club moving forward, and this was the right solution for both sides," he added.

For Mayo, the switch to Naturena offers a fresh start and an opportunity to rediscover the form that made him one of the most talked-about strikers in South Africa. His arrival is also seen as a key boost for Amakhosi, who are determined to end years of inconsistency and challenge strongly for silverware.

Chiefs have already made a promising start to the 2025/26 Betway Premiership, winning four and drawing one of their opening five matches.

They currently sit second on the log with 13 points, level with leaders Sekhukhune United, who edge them on goal difference. The two sides are set to clash in an early top-of-the-table encounter at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 16 September.
