AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders confirms Man City medical ahead of 55m euros move

Sources confirmed to ESPN earlier this week that the two clubs had agreed on a deal worth 55 million euros, with Reijnders set to sign a five-year contract at the Etihad.

Speaking after the Netherlands' 2–0 World Cup qualifying win over Finland on Saturday, Reijnders confirmed the timeline of the move.

"On Sunday, I'll fly to Manchester from here and then back to Zeist (the national team's base) in the evening," he said. "Everything is set and planned to do it within a day."

The 25-year-old also acknowledged the urgency to finalize the transfer ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup registration deadline, which closes on June 10.

"Yes, the registration closes, so it had to go as soon as possible," he added.

Reijnders is expected to join City's squad ahead of their trip to the United States for the Club World Cup, where they'll face Wydad AC in their opening match on June 18. He expressed enthusiasm about integrating into the team quickly and linking up with international teammate Nathan Ake.

"Of course, I will get to know the boys better immediately," Reijnders said. "I know Nathan Ake, but I think it's good for me to participate."

The dynamic midfielder enjoyed a strong season at AC Milan, scoring 10 goals in 37 Serie A appearances. Prior to his move to Italy in 2023, Reijnders built his reputation in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar and PEC Zwolle.

City's move for Reijnders highlights their ongoing strategy to refresh the midfield with versatile, technically gifted talent as Pep Guardiola prepares for another multi-front campaign, including their Club World Cup debut.
