Alexander Isak 'wants to move on' from Newcastle rift after Liverpool move

The Sweden international was at the centre of one of the transfer window's biggest sagas after a breakdown in his relationship with Newcastle and manager Eddie Howe.

The forward had made it clear he wanted to join Liverpool, and the fallout was made public when he accused Newcastle of breaking promises and misleading supporters in a statement released in August.

Speaking to the media ahead of Sweden's World Cup qualifier against Switzerland today, Isak made it clear he does not intend to discuss the matter further.

"It's not something I want to go into," he said. "It benefits nobody, neither me nor Newcastle, so let it be."

Isak admitted he has not spoken to Howe since leaving St James' Park, with relations strained after he went on strike to force the move. However, the 26-year-old said he is focused on regaining full fitness after a disrupted pre-season and adjusting to life at Anfield.

"I'm working hard to push myself and play my game," he added. "Things have been a bit tougher for us. I believe that as the team improves and things start to flow better, it will also go better for me."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Sweden coach Jon Dahl Tomasson have managed his workload carefully, but Isak said he now feels ready to play 90 minutes for the first time since May.

The striker, who joined Liverpool in a deal worth 125 million pounds, has scored once in six appearances so far this season.

Slot is confident that as the new-look Liverpool side continues to gel, Isak will begin to show the form that made him one of the Premier League's most sought-after forwards.
