Alphonso Davies poised for Bayern Munich comeback after long-term injury

Alphonso Davies poised for Bayern Munich comeback after long-term injury

The Canadian has been sidelined since the setback during international duty, but club sources now report that he is expected to re-join full training after the upcoming international break.

Davies' injury occurred while representing the Canada national team in the CONCACAF Nations League in March, ruling him out for the remainder of last season's campaign.

With nearly nine months of rehabilitation behind him, he reportedly has a tentative target to return to match-day action around 22 November in the Bundesliga fixture against SC Freiburg.

Bayern have coped admirably in his absence, winning their opening 16 matches across all competitions.

Nonetheless, Davies' return adds a significant boost to their defensive and attacking flexibility, he is comfortable at left-back and further forward in wide areas. In his absence, Raphael Guerreiro, Konrad Laimer and Tom Bischof have filled the role on the left flank.

On the mental and physical challenge of his recovery, Davies reflected: "The process is more difficult mentally than physically, the muscles will come back by themselves, but not knowing how long you're out for or whether you can do certain things, that's hard."

Manager Vincent Kompany added encouragingly: "It's definitely looking good. If he can play a few games in December, then everyone will have done a wonderful job."

With the international break looming, Bayern's medical team appear content to let Davies ease in, avoid rushing him into action prematurely. The next significant test might be a high-profile Champions League clash against Arsenal FC; however, club insiders suggest a domestic return could be the wiser option to get his minutes up and protect long-term fitness.
