AmaZulu and Nsingizini Hotspurs crowned joint champions of Mangosuthu Legacy Cup

AmaZulu and Nsingizini Hotspurs crowned joint champions of Mangosuthu Legacy Cup

The decision follows the cancellation of the final match at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium in Ulundi on Sunday.

The final was called off due to heavy rain that began on Saturday and continued through Sunday, damaging the pitch after the two semi-finals leading up to the final. The referee ultimately decided to suspend the match.

AmaZulu reached the final by defeating Njampela FC 2-1 in the first semi-final, while Nsingizini Hotspurs overcame PSL side Richards Bay FC 6-5 on penalties in the second semi-final.

As the final could not be played, tournament organizers decided that both teams would be declared joint champions for this year.

"Both teams, AmaZulu and Nsingizini Hotspurs, are the champions of the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup, and we congratulate them. We also want to thank all football fans from Ulundi and surrounding areas for coming out in large numbers to support these matches despite the heavy rain," said the minister.

The annual tournament was established in 2017 to honour the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

This year marks the second edition held after his passing in 2023. Last year, the cup was won by Njampela FC, who play in the SAFA KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League.
