Anthony Gordon fit as Eddie Howe prepares Newcastle for Stamford Bridge battle

After a season disrupted by injuries to key players, Howe revealed the Magpies finally had a "healthy squad" available again, although midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley remained unavailable.

Newcastle arrive in London determined to respond after a frustrating midweek result, but Howe insisted his players had reacted positively.

"We have responded well," Howe said. "There was big disappointment at the end, but it was a performance full of pride. We have another game around the corner and we cannot let what happened in one match affect the next. The week ahead is a big one for us."

The Newcastle manager expects a stern test against Chelsea, describing the trip to Stamford Bridge as one of the toughest away assignments in English football.

"There are mental challenges for this game that we need to get right," he explained. "Chelsea is one of the toughest away games you can have, so we need to make sure we are fully focused on them."

Howe confirmed that winger Anthony Gordon had returned to training after illness and was available for selection.

"He trained yesterday and he is fine," Howe said. "He was willing to play in the last game, but it was my decision not to start him because he had been ill that morning."

Midfielder Joelinton has also become increasingly important to Newcastle's balance this season, and Howe admitted the club were eager to keep him fit after several injury setbacks.

"When Joe plays like he has been, he brings steel and mobility to the midfield," Howe said. "He really lifts the team when he is in a good place. He gives so much in every game, so we are desperate to keep him fit."

Howe also praised young defender Lewis Hall, who has impressed after forcing his way into the starting side.

"Lewis was a smart piece of business," Howe said. "He had a tough first year and had to show real mental strength and patience, but he has taken his chance. At the moment he is playing his best football."

Meanwhile, Guimaraes is expected to return to action after the upcoming international break.

"Bruno is back on Monday and he wants to come with us to Barcelona to support the lads," Howe revealed. "He has worked incredibly hard on his recovery, and hopefully once the international break has finished he will be ready to return."

With more players returning and confidence rebuilding, Newcastle now turn their attention to a crucial Premier League test in west London.
