Antoine Semenyo injury doubt hands West Ham hope ahead of Bournemouth clash

The Hammers, managed by Nuno Espirito Santo and already navigating a challenging season that has included the suspension of key midfielder Lucas Paqueta for accumulated yellow cards, could exploit any weakness in the Cherries' attack as they aim to build momentum in their push away from the relegation zone.

Semenyo limped off during Ghana's 2-0 friendly defeat to Japan on Friday, lasting 55 minutes before substitution. The Ghana Football Association confirmed a “left anterior talo-fibular ligament sprain” that was aggravated in the match, though the 25-year-old showed little visible discomfort when leaving the pitch.

Ghana coach Otto Addo made no mention of the issue post-match.

The winger subsequently withdrew from Ghana's follow-up friendly against South Korea and returned to Bournemouth for further assessment. While initial reports raised concerns, more recent updates suggest the injury is minor, described by some sources as a light sprain, and Semenyo could be available, subject to final checks.

There has even been speculation that personal reasons, including a recent engagement proposal, played a role in his early departure from international camp.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola is expected to clarify Semenyo's status in his pre-match press conference later this week, having previously stressed the importance of keeping key players fit amid a demanding schedule.

Semenyo has been instrumental in Bournemouth's solid start to the 2025-26 season, contributing goals, assists, pace and directness despite the club parting with several senior figures in the summer.

His potential absence would undeniably weaken Iraola's attacking options and tilt the balance in West Ham's favour at Vitality Stadium, where Nuno's side will be desperate for points to ease growing pressure.
