Asanele Velebayi tells Faiz Abrahams how to handle Kaizer Chiefs pressure

Abrahams joined AmaKhosi on a season-long loan from Stellenbosch FC, with the club holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

The 21-year-old attacker is among several new faces brought in by head coach Fernando Da Cruz as the Glamour Boys continue to reshape their squad as they aim to compete in the Betway Premiership and the CAF Confederation Cup.

For Abrahams, the move represents another important step in a promising career. He developed at Cape Town Spurs before featuring prominently for Stellenbosch FC's DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side and eventually making his senior debut against Chiefs towards the end of the 2024/25 season.

He has also represented South Africa at youth level, helping the Amajita win the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

Velebayi, who previously played alongside Abrahams at Cape Town Spurs, believes his arrival can benefit Chiefs because of the quality and competition he brings to the squad.

"With Faiz, I've known him for a long time, so having him here is good because it helps you give your best because you know there is competition; you can't be comfortable any day," Velebayi said.

The Chiefs winger, however, knows that Abrahams will have to deal with heightened expectations at Naturena.

"I spoke to him and told him that the pressure is going to be high, but try to control what you can, which is staying calm and giving the best to the team," he added.

Velebayi is confident Abrahams has the ability to make a significant contribution to the Amakhosi cause.

"I know the magic that he has, and I know that he's going to help us a lot," he said.

Chiefs are not in action this weekend with the MTN8 semi-finals taking place and Amakhosi were knocked-out in the quarter-finals.

The club's next match is an away fixture against Richards Bay FC  on Wednesday, 26 August, as Abrahams waits to make his debut for the club.
