Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez nearing transfer to Serie A giants Juventus

Juventus have submitted an 8.5 million pounds offer for the Argentina international, although Villa are understood to be seeking the full amount without relying on add-ons. Talks between the clubs are continuing, with Martinez's departure now looking increasingly likely.

Villa had previously indicated that the 33-year-old would remain at Villa Park, but the situation has changed significantly as Juventus maintain their long-standing interest in the World Cup winner.

Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal for 17 million pounds in 2020 and has made 256 appearances for the club. He became a central figure in their success, helping Villa win the Europa League in May and end a 30-year wait for a major trophy.

He missed Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain after being given an extended break following the World Cup. He had been expected to return to full training this week ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Brighton.

Villa have already moved to address the potential departure by agreeing a deal for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

The Japan international is set to join in a package worth around 29.9 million pounds, with reports indicating that he will sign a five-year contract. Villa moved for Suzuki after his proposed transfer to PSG collapsed during negotiations.

Suzuki, who turns 24 this month, joined Parma from Urawa Red Diamonds in 2024 and has established himself as Japan's first-choice goalkeeper. He started all four of his country's matches at the World Cup and has made close to 60 appearances for Parma.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, to a Ghanaian father and Japanese mother, Suzuki grew up in Japan and has attracted interest from several major European clubs.

With Juventus pushing for Martinez and Suzuki poised to arrive at Villa Park, the goalkeeper department at Aston Villa looks set for a major change before the transfer window closes.
