Bafana defender Tylon Smith signs loan deal with Major League Soccer side New England Revolution

The 21-year-old former Stellenbosch centre-back joined the English Championship side ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Smith was picked up by QPR following his exploits for South Africa at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, where he was named Player of the Tournament, despite having yet to make his first-team Stellies debut.

But with game-time hard to come by, the talented youngster has now moved to continue his development in the United States.

"The New England Revolution have acquired central defender Tylon Smith on loan from Queens Park Rangers F.C. through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to purchase," read a club statement.

Revolution General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Chris Tierney added: "Tylon Smith is a promising player who will help strengthen our defence.

"At just 21 years old, Tylon has built a strong foundation through both his club and youth national team experience.

"We're confident that this is the ideal environment for Tylon to continue his development and we look forward to welcoming him to New England."
