Barcelona move seven points clear after Mallorca down Real Madrid

The clash between Atletico Madrid at Barcelona at Metropolitano Stadium was a spicy affair with both teams being shown a red card, although Barca's dismissal shortly after half time was rescinded after a check by the television match official.

Giuliano Simeone opened the scoring for the home side in the 39th minute with a well-timed finish and Marcus Rashford was able to get Barcelona back on level terms in the 42nd minute before Nicolas Gonzalez was shown a red card for an ugly challenge on the stroke of half-time.

The visitor took full advantage of their superior numbers after the break, creating several big chances before Robert Lewandowski was able to steal a late winner in the 87th minute.

Elsewhere in LaLiga on Saturday, Mallorca stunned everyone with an unexpected 2-1 win over Real Madrid at Estadio de Son Moix.

Madu Morlanes put the home side ahead in the 41st minute and they were able to hang on to that lead for most of the rest of the game before Eder Militao thought he had rescued a point for Los Blancos with a goal in the 88th minute.

However, three minutes later, Vedat Muriqi was able to sneak through on goal and grab a stunning winner to put a huge dent in Real Madrid's LaLiga title hopes.

Real Betis and Espanyol drew 0-0 Estadio de la Cartuja and Randy Nteka's 74th minute goal was enough to hand Rayo Vallecano a 1-0 win over nine-man Elche at Estadio de Vallecas.

Real Sociedad cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Levante at Reale Arena thanks to goals by Jon Martin (30') and Brais Mendez (83').
