Barcelona register midfielder Marc Bernal just before transfer deadline

The youngster now appears on La Liga's official squad list for the 2025/26 season.

The decision came after Hector Fort sealed a loan move to Elche, which opened the necessary salary space. While Bernal was still eligible to feature for the reserves, the registration underlined the faith head coach Hansi Flick and the club's management have in his ability.

Flick has said he wants Bernal available for the trip to Valencia on 14 September, highlighting how highly he rates the teenager. "Marc has worked incredibly hard to come back, and we trust him. He can bring control and energy to our midfield," Flick explained when asked about the decision.

This week marked an emotional milestone for Bernal, who exactly one year ago suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injury against Rayo Vallecano. That setback ruled him out for the entire campaign, just when he had begun to establish himself in Flick's plans.

Since returning to full training six weeks ago, Bernal has impressed staff with his determination and composure. Barcelona have not rushed his comeback, but the club view his registration as a sign of long-term confidence in his role.

With Gavi sidelined after his own long-term injury and Pedri with a slight knee injury, Bernal's presence could prove vital in easing the midfield workload as Barcelona prepare for a busy September schedule that includes Champions League fixtures.

For now, patience remains important, but Bernal's first-team registration signals Barcelona's belief that he can become a key figure for the future.
