Ibrahima Konate trains with France, easing Liverpool's fears over injury
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has joined the France squad for their upcoming World Cup qualification matches, allaying fears over a recent injury.
Two of Europe's biggest clubs are reportedly preparing to enter the race, while Guehi's farewell video to Crystal Palace has also leaked.
The Reds spent heavily over the summer, investing well over 400 million pounds and breaking the British transfer record twice, including the 125 million pounds capture of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
Liverpool came close to adding Guehi for 35 million pounds, with the 25-year-old defender agreeing a five-year deal and completing a medical. However, Crystal Palace blocked the move at the final stage after failing to secure a replacement. Guehi, who captained Palace from a young age, will remain at Selhurst Park until at least January.
Manager Arne Slot and his coaching staff remain keen on bringing Guehi to Anfield during the winter window, but new reports suggest Liverpool could face strong competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Both Spanish giants are reportedly considering moves to sign Guehi on a free transfer, with the England international eligible to agree pre-contract terms abroad from January 1.
Real Madrid have also shown interest in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires next summer, but Guehi is seen as a more reliable option and could appeal to manager Xabi Alonso.
In the meantime, Guehi's farewell message to Palace supporters has surfaced online. He said: "I'm a south London boy; grew up in south London; captained the club from a young age. They've been fantastic for me and my family. Definitely a pleasure to play for this football club."
Palace's decision to keep Guehi came after manager Oliver Glasner urged the board to halt the sale. Following Palace's 3-0 win at Aston Villa, Glasner told reporters: "We have to keep him. It's not just for me. It's for the future of Crystal Palace, it's for playing a successful season. If we don't have the right replacement, it's clear we keep him."
Liverpool also face challenges elsewhere. Isak's arrival has raised concerns among the squad, and midfielder Harvey Elliott has moved to Aston Villa on an initial season-long loan after the Reds adjusted their demands to facilitate the transfer.
