Borussia Dortmund eyeing Chelsea defender as potential Nico Schlotterbeck replacement

While Dortmund are working to extend Schlotterbeck's contract - currently set to run until 2027-interest from European giants such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Liverpool has complicated negotiations.

Reports suggest BVB have offered a new deal through 2030, including a significant pay bump, but the 25-year-old centre-back is yet to commit. His decision may hinge on the club's sporting trajectory over the coming season.

With the situation unresolved, Dortmund are already exploring contingency plans. One prominent name on their shortlist is Axel Disasi, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea. Despite a 45 million euro move to Stamford Bridge in 2023, the French international has failed to cement a place in the squad and is currently not training with Chelsea's first team under Enzo Maresca.

Disasi's availability - both in terms of transfer fee and wages - makes him a viable candidate for Dortmund. Chelsea are reportedly open to offloading the 27-year-old permanently, potentially at a reduced price due to his limited playing time. His 5 million euros per year salary also fits within Dortmund's financial framework.

The prospect of a reunion with BVB manager Niko Kovac adds further appeal. Disasi played under Kovač during their time together at AS Monaco, a connection that could smooth negotiations and integration into the Dortmund squad.

The looming departure of another centre-back, Niklas Sule, whose contract runs until 2026, further emphasizes Dortmund's need to reinforce their backline. Süle would be required to accept a pay cut to remain at the club, adding to the sense of transition in Dortmund's defensive ranks.

Disasi is also attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, but a Bundesliga return may offer the playing time and stability he seeks. For Dortmund, he represents not just a stopgap, but a long-term solution should both Schlotterbeck and Sule exit in the next transfer windows.

With domestic football resuming after the international break, Dortmund's immediate focus will shift to the high-stakes Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich on October 18 at the Allianz Arena - a fixture that could offer a glimpse into the club's defensive resilience amid the uncertainty ahead.
