Bundesliga: Dortmund fall to Monchengladbach, Mainz move away from danger zone

Mainz edge St. Pauli to secure Bundesliga status

Mainz defeated FC St.Pauli 2-1 at the Millerntor-Stadion on Sunday evening to ensure they remain in the top division next season.

The visitors dominated the first half from the onset with Philip Tietz grabbing the opener in the sixth minute before Phillip Mwene added a second shortly before half time.

Mainz had numerous chances to seal the win in the second half but couldn't convert until the home side pulled one back through Abdoulie Ceesay in the 87th minute.

The result sees Mainz move to tenth while St. Pauli slip to 17th.

Dortmund miss chance to secure second spot at Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach defeated Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at Borussia Park to preserve their Bundesliga status for next season.

A late Haris Tabakovic strike was enough to secure the full points for the home side after the Foals had been firmly in control in the first half.

The result moves Gladbach up to 11th on the table, while BVB remain second, five points ahead of Leipzig in third.

Freiburg clinch European spot after draw with Wolfsburg.

Freiburg secured European football following the 1-1 draw against relegation threatened Wolfsburg at Europa Park Stadion.

The first half was a physical battle between the two teams with few clear cut chances as the match went into half time goalless.

However, more urgency was shown in the second half with Konstantinos Koulierakis opening the scoring, however, Freiburg responded with Phillip Lienhart's header securing a share of the spoils for the hosts.

Freiburg move up to seventh on the table while Wolfsburg move to 16th
