Nicolas Jackson doubled their advantage six minutes later before an own goal by Loic Bade rounded out the scoring.

Bayern were in complete control the entire game and it could have been worse for Leverkusen if Jackson hadn't had a goal disallowed for offside.

The impressive performance came despite star striker Harry Kane being given a rest, showing the incredible depth available to head coach Vincent Kompany, and the win maintained their five-point lead over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga standings.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Leipzig beat VfB Stuttgart 3-1 to keep pace with Bayern at the Red Bull Arena.

After a tight first half, the hosts took the lead via a Jeff Chabot own goal on the verge of halftime.

Things opened up a bit in the second half with Yan Diomande making it 2-0 in the 53rd minute before Tiago Tomas pulled one back for Stuttgart 12 minutes later.

After a tense conclusion to the encounter, Romulo ensured Leipzig would take all three points when he scored in second-half stoppage time to round out the scoring.

Borussia Monchengladbach were impressive on the road as they thrashed St Pauli 4-0 at Millerntor Stadion.

Haris Tabakovic picked up a brace (15' and 40') with Shuto Machino (75') and Oscar Faulo (80') also getting on the scoresheet.

Mainz and Werder Bremen shared the points at MEWA Arena with goals from Silvan Widmer (36') and Jens Stage (86') cancelling each other out.

Union Berlin and SC Freiburg played out to a dull 0-0 draw at An der Alten Forsterei, while Budu Zivzivdaze (32') and Rasmus Kristensen (55') exchanged goals in the 1-1 draw between Heidenheim and Frankfurt at Voith Arena.
