Miguel Cardoso proud as Mamelodi Sundowns see off Al-Ahli in Intercontinental Cup

Nuno Santos (17', 80') scored both goals either side of an unfortunate own-goal credited to Ronwen Williams after 19 minutes.

The result sees Sundowns advance to the next round, labelled the Challenger Cup to face the winner of the Derby of the Americas.

Speaking after the game, Cardoso says that the memory of Jayden Adams was with the team as they saw off the Asian champions.

He said on SuperSport after the game: "In this moment, let's look in the sky and embrace our brother Jayden Adams. It's his soul today that gave us the strength and let's remind Khuliso Mudau that's also his injury. It's important we respect the game, but we don't respect no one.

"Don't take me wrong, I mean respect what's happening in the pitch, fight harder to have the ball, be humble for that but be proud to be yourselves."

Cardoso thanked his team for their performance, adding: "I said I want Sundowns on the pitch today and we had it. Thank you very much South Africa.
