Sundowns victory eliminates the Saudi side from the Intercontinental Cup and sees them progress to the Challenger Cup final against either Mexican club Toluca or the yet to be confirmed CONMEBOL champions.
"A lot of disappointment," admitted Mendy to reporters after the match.
"I think we play a great game but it's a final it's about details, set pieces, focus and in front I think we could've killed the game in the first half.
"It is what it is. I'm proud of my team. I think we show good character and our spirit here in South Africa against the best team in Africa, definitely. One of the best teams I ever played."
The former Chelsea keeper will now turn his attention back to their next Saudi Pro League fixture against Al Fateh next Friday.
