Cedric Kaze explains surprise Mcedi Vandala substitution against Kaizer Chiefs

Vandala, who recently joined Babina Noko from AmaZulu, came on in the 60th minute for Thato Khiba as Kaze looked to add more attacking threat.

However, the forward was taken off in the 80th minute, with Karabo Tlaka replacing him in a decision that raised questions among supporters.

Kaze insisted the move was purely tactical, explaining that Vandala had failed to provide the impact he expected.

"It was a tactical decision from us, from me, and I hope we work it out. The way I wanted him to perform and the impact I wanted from him is not what I wanted to see," Kaze said after the match.

The former Amakhosi co-coach had initially seen his tactical plan work effectively as Babina Noko frustrated their hosts during a goalless first half.

Kaze, who has intimate knowledge of the Chiefs squad after his time at Naturena, set his side up in a disciplined low block designed to deny the home side space.

"We prepared well, and we knew that Chiefs would come out in a bit of a rush because of their defeat in their last game," he said.

"We knew that we had to slow the game down and not allow them to get space, especially in the wide areas, stopping them from having 1v1 situations and closing the central lines."

However, Sekhukhune struggled to maintain that intensity after the break, with the Glamour Boys increasing the tempo.

Kaze also pointed to fatigue after his side played 120 minutes against AmaZulu in the MTN8 over the weekend.

"I feel like in the second half, we were a little bit passive while they increased the tempo of the game," he admitted.

"But it is a well-deserved win for Chiefs. They played well in the second half and we didn't start well, and we had a lot of heavy legs."
