Temwa doubled the advantage just before halftime. Played through on goal, she calmly rounded the goalkeeper before finishing into an empty net, sending Malawi into the interval with a 2-0 lead.

Malawi continued to attack in the second stanza, with Temwa going close after racing past three defenders. Her effort, however, narrowly missed the target.

Algeria pulled a goal back in the 60th minute. Marine Dafeur's dangerous free-kick caused confusion in the Malawi penalty area, allowing Ikram Adjabi to react quickest and volley the loose ball home. in a goalmouth scramble.
