Chelsea loanee Mamadou Sarr chooses to represent Senegal over France

The 20-year-old was signed Chelsea in the summer from Strasbourg but was loaned back to the Ligue 1 club for the 2025/26 season after making his Blues debut against Esperance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Sarr previously captained France's U17s to the European Championships title in 2022 before earning numerous caps at U18, U19 and U20 level for Les Blues.

However, the centre-back has reportedly now opted to play for the Teranga Lions senior national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Senegal has qualified for.

He was not named in head coach Pape Thiaw's squad for the upcoming international friendly against Brazil next week but is reportedly an important long-term prospect for the African giants.

Sarr has featured in ten matches in all competitions for Strasbourg this season, with the team in seventh position on the Ligue 1 table.
