West Ham re-sign goalkeeper Łukasz Fabianski
West Ham have confirmed the return of veteran goalkeeper Łukasz Fabianski on a contract that runs until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old Denmark international was a free agent after leaving United at the end of last season.
Eriksen had attracted interest from Championship club Wrexham earlier in the transfer window but declined the offer, instead opting for a new challenge in Germany. This marks his first stint in the Bundesliga after previous spells in England, Italy, and the Netherlands.
"VfL Wolfsburg is my first club in the Bundesliga - I'm really looking forward to this new adventure," Eriksen said. "I'm convinced we can achieve something together here. The talks with the club bosses went very well, and I immediately sensed that head coach Paul Simonis has a clear vision for the team and for me personally. The fact that there are several familiar faces from the Danish national team in the squad also made Wolfsburg a particularly attractive option."
Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz welcomed the signing, calling Eriksen a valuable addition. "We're really pleased that this opportunity came about at short notice. Christian brings tremendous experience, quality, and leadership. He will be a great mentor for our younger players and complement our captain Max Arnold perfectly."
Eriksen joined United in July 2022 on a free transfer from Brentford and made 107 appearances over three seasons, scoring eight goals. His final goal for United came from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford. During his time at the club, he helped win the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup and played a key role in their run to the Europa League final, contributing two goals and several assists in the competition.
Prior to United, Eriksen had a notable career at Tottenham, where he became one of the Premier League's standout playmakers from 2013 to 2020. He made 305 appearances for Spurs, scoring 69 goals and providing 88 assists, and was instrumental in their run to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.
His career also included a Serie A title win with Inter Milan in the 2020-21 season and an early spell at Ajax, where he made 163 appearances. Eriksen made a remarkable return to football after suffering a cardiac arrest during Euro 2021, having been fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) before resuming his career with Brentford.
Speaking earlier this year, Eriksen indicated his desire to continue playing in Europe rather than return to Denmark or move to the United States, citing family reasons.
Wolfsburg have started the 2025-26 season strongly, winning two of their opening three matches. Eriksen is expected to make his debut soon, with the club next in action against FC Köln on Saturday. He will wear the number 24 shirt.
