Christopher Nkunku set for RB Leipzig return after difficult AC Milan spell

Leipzig have agreed a deal with Milan for the 28-year-old forward, with reports putting the initial loan fee at between 3.5 million and 4 million euros. The Bundesliga side will also have an option to make the transfer permanent for a fee in the region of 28 million to 30 million euros.

Nkunku has been deemed surplus to requirements by Milan manager Ruben Amorim after an underwhelming season at San Siro. He made 40 appearances in 2025/26, scoring eight goals and providing three assists, although his opportunities became more limited when Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao were available.

A return to Leipzig could give Nkunku the opportunity to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe's most sought-after attackers during his first spell at the club.

He joined Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and went on to score 70 goals in 172 appearances. His performances eventually earned him a 60 million euros move to Chelsea in 2023, where injuries and difficulties adapting to the Premier League restricted him to 18 goals in 62 games.

Milan signed Nkunku from Chelsea in 2025 for a fee reported to be around 37 million-40 million euros, but his stay in Italy looks set to have lasted just one season.
