Complexe Mohammed V to close for major upgrades shead of AFCON 2025

The closure will impact upcoming Botola Pro INWI fixtures, with several matches set to be rescheduled or moved to alternative venues.

As hosts of AFCON 2025, scheduled for December 2025 to January 2026, Morocco is upgrading its stadiums to comply with CAF and FIFA standards.

According to Morocco World News, the upcoming works at Mohammed V will focus on replacing the playing surface and improving stadium infrastructure, including security and media facilities.

The stadium has already undergone renovations in recent years, but the latest phase aims to enhance its readiness for the continental showpiece.

The Ligue Nationale de Football Professionnel (LNFP) confirmed in a statement that the Botola Pro match between Raja Casablanca and Kawkab de Marrakech, scheduled for the eighth round, has been relocated due to the closure.

National sports agency SONARGES revealed that the project involves replacing the pitch with a ryegrass hybrid better suited to the winter season.

The process is expected to take approximately six weeks. Resident clubs Raja CA and Wydad AC will use Stade Larbi Zaouli as an alternative venue during this period.

Club officials have pledged full cooperation but have requested clear communication regarding scheduling and security arrangements for supporters.

The Casablanca municipal council assured that efforts are being made to minimize disruption to the domestic league and ensure the stadium is ready well ahead of AFCON 2025.

The reopening date for Complexe Mohammed V will be announced once the renovation works are completed.
