Crystal Palace sign Brennan Johnson from Tottenham for club-record fee
The 24-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Selhurst Park, will wear the No. 11 shirt and is set to be available for Sunday's trip to Newcastle. His arrival surpasses Palace's previous transfer record, the 27 million pounds paid for Christian Benteke in 2016, and follows a successful medical earlier this week.
Johnson attracted interest from Bournemouth but was persuaded to move to south London after talks with Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who has been eager to strengthen his squad. Palace are competing in Europe for the first time and currently sit tenth in the Europa Conference League, while injuries to Daichi Kamada and Ismaila Sarr's Africa Cup of Nations involvement have stretched attacking options.
The forward joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest for 47.5 million pounds in 2023 and finished last season as Spurs' top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions, including the winner in the Europa League final. However, his minutes were limited this term under new manager Thomas Frank, with just six Premier League starts.
"I'm really excited and really happy," Johnson said. "Crystal Palace are a great club and it's a great time to join the journey they're on."
Glasner added: "Brennan will give us options with his pace and goalscoring ability, and with so many games coming up he will be a valuable addition to the squad."
Palace chairman Steve Parish described Johnson as "an exciting young talent" and said his signing strengthens the club's attacking depth during their busiest season to date.
