Dani Carvajal's red card and injury leaves Real Madrid shorthanded

That sent Madrid into the final 18 minutes with ten men.

UEFA has handed Carvajal a two-match ban, meaning he will miss Madrid's Champions League encounters with Kairat Almaty and Juventus.

However, the suspension may have little practical effect: Carvajal is already sidelined with a calf (soleus) injury suffered during the Madrid derby, and medical reports indicate he will be out for around four weeks.

No Double Blow for Madrid

Because Carvajal's ban falls during a period he is unavailable through injury, Real Madrid will absorb both absences without additional disruption.

When Might Carvajal Return?

The timeline points to a possible comeback in early November. He could return in time for Madrid's Champions League fixture against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Madrid's other right-back, faces a hamstring issue and is also expected to return only in November.

Carvajal had only recently returned to play after a long layoff following a serious knee injury. He made his comeback in July 2025 during the Club World Cup.

He had been a near-constant presence in the starting XI, apart from one game, until this latest setback struck.

At present, all of Carvajal's energy is focused on a safe and full recovery.
