Dani Olmo's breakthrough year lights up Barcelona

The Catalan star sealed his move to the Blaugrana in August 2024 and wrapped up a peculiar but impressive debut season three weeks ago.

Despite navigating registration issues in the summer and January, Olmo delivered standout performances in his first campaign under Hansi Flick.

Injuries and administrative hurdles sidelined Olmo for some matches, but he still contributed to 18 goals across 39 appearances. The 26-year-old scored 12 times, provided six assists, and won three penalties.

He confidently converted spot-kicks against Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao, while also recording 38 key passes, showcasing his creative flair.

One match etched in Olmo's memory came against Celta Vigo. Entering the pitch in the 60th minute with Barcelona trailing 1-3, he scored within five minutes, courtesy of a Raphinha assist. Raphinha later equalised, and in stoppage time, Olmo won a penalty that secured a dramatic victory for the Catalans.

"That Celta game was special," Olmo said on his official X account after the match. "The team showed heart, and the fans carried us."

Olmo's impact was decisive, directly earning Barcelona eight points across the 2024-25 La Liga season with crucial contributions against Rayo Vallecano, Espanyol, Las Palmas, and Mallorca. His performances saw him named to Sofascore's Team of the Week three times.

Now on holiday after representing Spain in the Nations League, Olmo is spending time with family. Barcelona's squad are set to return for medical checks on July 13, giving the versatile midfielder a well-earned month of rest.

"Grateful for an unforgettable first season," Olmo posted on X last week, alongside a photo of him celebrating at the Camp Nou.

Olmo's debut year has cemented his place as a key figure in Flick's Barcelona, and supporters are already eager to see what the dynamic Spaniard brings next.
