Daniel Akpeyi keen on playing return, pursuing coaching dreams

The Nigerian international, who previously had a notable spell with Kaizer Chiefs, joined Gallants at the start of last season after the club took over Moroka Swallows' top-flight status.

However, his time at the Bloemfontein-based outfit was hampered by injuries and a lack of regular game time, limiting him to just seven appearances in all competitions.

Now 37, Akpeyi was among more than ten players released by the club after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. Despite this, he remains focused on extending his playing career and is currently weighing up offers.

"There are a few interests, especially from the lower division," Akpeyi told FARPost. "We're just trying to see what the chances are. I only want to join a club that has real ambition - one that's ready to fight for promotion."

In the meantime, Akpeyi is also laying the groundwork for life beyond the pitch. He's been actively pursuing his coaching qualifications and has already secured his CAF D Licence, with plans to continue along the coaching pathway.

"My aim is to become a goalkeeper coach, so I'm working on getting the necessary certificates," he added. "I've already completed my CAF D Licence."

While he explores coaching opportunities in the future, Akpeyi is fully focused on finding the right environment to contribute as a player one more time - ideally with a club pushing for top-flight promotion.
