Danny Jordaan makes big claim about new Bafana assistant coach Morena Ramoreboli

Ramoreboli returns to the national team setup after SAFA confirmed his appointment this week, following his departure from the Botswana national team.

The coach was granted permission by the Botswana Football Association to leave his role with The Zebras, having helped guide the country to the Africa Cup of Nations after a 12-year absence.

Jordaan believes Ramoreboli's understanding of football in both South Africa and the wider continent makes him a valuable addition to Mosimane's technical team.

"We are delighted to welcome Morena Ramoreboli back into the Bafana Bafana environment. He has earned this opportunity through his achievements and his consistent growth as a coach over many years," said Jordaan in a statement.

"Morena knows South African football, understands African football and has demonstrated that he can build competitive teams, develop players and deliver results in challenging circumstances."

Ramoreboli is no stranger to Bafana, having twice taken charge of the national team at the COSAFA Cup, in 2021 and 2023.

He also gained valuable continental experience during his time at Botswana giants Jwaneng Galaxy, famously guiding them to a CAF Champions League victory over Orlando Pirates in 2023.

Jordaan believes that experience, combined with Ramoreboli's knowledge of the local game, can strengthen Bafana as they target success under Mosimane.

"His experience in Botswana has added another important dimension to his coaching career. We believe his qualities will complement those of Coach Pitso Mosimane and strengthen the Bafana Bafana technical team as we begin the journey towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations."

Botswana FA president Oabile Tariq Babitseng also paid tribute to Ramoreboli following his decision to leave The Zebras.

"Morena Ramoreboli has made a meaningful and lasting contribution to Botswana football, both at Jwaneng Galaxy and with The Zebras," said Babitseng.

Bafana begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Guinea at Orlando Stadium on September 26, before facing Eritrea in Cairo four days later. Mosimane's side will then meet Egypt in an international friendly on October 4.
